Parliamentary Committee asks to public US, NATO accords

The Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) has finalised its recommendations to fix the terms of relations with the U.S. and NATO in connection with the war on terror.

On the other hand, the Foreign Office showed its unawareness about DG Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha’s meetings with the U.S. officials in Doha. The committee also recommended making public all the agreements
that Pakistan has with the U.S. and NATO with regard to war on terror.

A meeting of PCNS was held with Senator Raza Rabbani in the chair to finalise the recommendations for revising Pakistan’s relations with the U.S. and NATO particularly in the war against terror.

Briefing the media Senator Raza Rabbani said the Finance Minister Hazfeez Sheikh and his team would brief the committee on Thursday about the country’s benefits and losses in the war on terror. He said that the committee has received
no dissenting note from any member so far.

He added that the committee would seek the viewpoint of the ministries of foreign affairs and defence on their recommendations. “Necessary changes can be made in the new draft if the committee finds something new in the briefing
of these ministries,” Rabbani added.

Rabbani said that his panel had prepared comprehensive and balance recommendations for the country’s ties with the U.S. “Our package will ensure the respect and safeguard of Pakistan’s integrity if it is implemented in truly,” he
maintained.

He said he would present committees’ recommendation to the prime minister. “The prime minister will present these suggestions in parliament after convening a joint sitting of both the houses,” he added.

He said that Foreign Office officials are unaware about DG, ISI meeting with the US officials in Doha. “Foreign Office was asked but it has no information about Gen. Pasha’s activities in Doha which are reported in the press,” Rabbani
said.

Reports informed that the committee has proposed to raise the charges of NATO’s supply line and other services being provided by Pakistan in the war on terror.

Earlier, the members were shocked to know nominal charges of various services Pakistan is providing to the NATO. The parliamentary panel also prepared tough suggestions for the US and NATO about their operations in Pakistan.
