Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Quetta

PML-N Chief, Mian Nawaz Sharif, who paid a visit to Quetta last week in connection with his party’s restructuring process in the province, held meetings with Baloch leaders, assuring them an all parties’ conference would be called to redress their problems.

He, at the same time, vowed to resolve the crises being created by the previous government under the aegis of Pervez Musharraf.

While addressing a news conference after a meeting with JWP (Jamhuri Watan Party) chief Talal Bugti, the son of late Nawab Akbar Bugti, the PML-N head touched upon all the major issues being faced by the Baloch people.

He spoke in detail about continuing military operation, forceful disappearances and lack of interest by the government to bring the alienated Baloch nationalist leaders back into the conventional affairs of state.

He voiced a right point that peace could not be restored in the region until a serious attempt was made to address the real complaints of the people of Balochistan.

In his view, the life-style of Baloch people will have to be modified with provision of basic necessities, who had been subjugated to oppression in the past.

Nawaz Sharif flayed severe criticism to the government for not punishing the guilty people of Kharotabad incident, in which security agencies brutally killed five foreigners.

“Why is the government so reluctant in taking action against the killers of Nawab Akbar Bugti”, he raised a question without naming former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

President Asif Ali Zardari, in his recent interaction with media after a long time, elaborated the reason for not taking action against Pervez Musharraf. He opined that the incumbent decided not to trail the former ruler because it could have demoralized the security forces to that he had command sometime.

The Baloch people will be further disheartened by the present democratic dispensation and may start joining hands with people having breakaway intentions.

Nawaz Sharif during his second term as a prime minister took all the key politicians of the province on board to protect the rights of Baloch people.

However, he did not pay any heed in the last three and a half years to ally the difficulties of people of Balochistan. His present visit will be taken as an attempt to draw the political mileage, as the elections are round the corner.
