Musharraf in favour of recognising Israel

The former President of Pakistan Gen. (retd) Pervez Musharraf has recently given a statement in which he expressed his view that the Jewish country Israel should be recognized by Pakistan.

The former President of Pakistan was speaking in an interview with an Israeli newspaper, Haaretz while sharing his views on the relationship between Pakistan and Israel. The retired General was of the opinion that good relations
between the two nations would serve to strengthen both countries strategically and otherwise as well. The former President of Pakistan stressed that both the nations can find many common grounds on which diplomatic relations can be initiated and built up.
Musharraf pointed out that the basis of the creation of both the countries was ideological.

The former President of Pakistan stated that many other Muslim countries had diplomatic ties with the Jewish nation and that Pakistan should also accept the reality of Israel and give it recognition.

The former President of Pakistan explained his views on the matter in the following manner: “Israel is a fait accompli. A lot of the Muslim world has understood that and I know many Muslim countries have relations with Israel, whether
above board or covertly. So this is the change in reality I am talking about. Pakistan has to keep demanding the resolution of the Palestinian dispute … [but] Pakistan also needs to keep readjusting its diplomatic stand toward Israel based on the mere fact
that it exists and is not going away.”

While talking about the sentiment prevalent about Israel and Jews in the general public in Pakistan, the former President of the country explained that the Pakistani community do not harbor negative sentiment for the Jews. However,
Musharraf also said that there is negative sentiment present against Israel in connection with the on going crises that the Palestinians are facing.

Musharraf pointed out that it was him who took it upon himself and felt it was necessary that the two countries develop ties and in this regard, got the former Pakistani minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri to have a meeting with the
foreign minister of Israel, Silvan Shalom.
