Shahbaz suggests ECSPL to adopt simplicity and austerity policy of Punjab govt.

Lahore: (Tuesday, January 10, 2012) Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has stressed the Engineering Consultancy Services Punjab Limited (ECSPL) to make provision of high quality services to the masses its main objective.

Presiding over the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the ECSPL here yesterday, the CM suggested the body to adopt simplicity and austerity policy of the Punjab government.

Referring to the foundational goal that culminated in the establishment of ECSPL, Shahbaz said that it was set up for the speedy and quality completion of development projects and professionals having excellent career record had
been inducted in the board.

Shahbaz said there was a big void as no programme for capacity building of engineers was under way and thus development projects were being delayed indefinitely. The creation of ECSPL, he said, was aimed at filling this void.

Thus, to him, it was the responsibility of the ECSPL to make itself a state of the art company in every respect so that it could play an effective role in the timely and quality completion of bridges, highways, bus rapid transit
system, solid waste management, education, health and other development projects.

Besides specialization, he said, the company should be multi-dimensional in its approach and must focus on public and private sector for development projects would be at its discretion.

Enforcing govt. Punjab’s adherence to merit policy, Shahbaz said the best officers and staff should be selected for the company and its BoD would be fully authorized in their selection. He further stated that provision of high
quality services should be the main objective of the company.

Citing Turkey’s example, the chief minister said that the country had made commendable progress in every field and sector pointing out that about 10 transport systems were operating simultaneously in Istanbul, including metro,
underground, tram, traditional and ferry.

As the meeting lingered on, the CM also gave approval for the appointment of Engineer Tariq Hameed as the vice-chairman of the company and said that all members of the board were among the top engineers and they should utilize
all their abilities for speedy development of the province and service to the people.
