Mohammad Amir may come back to international cricket soon

Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf has hinted that the banned left arm fast bowler, Mohammad Amir still has a future in international cricket and said that PCB will give him mental counselling once the young fast bowler is released from
jail.

The left arm fast bowler is serving a five year ban from all kinds of competitive cricket as he was found involved in the spot-fixing controversy which arose during Pakistan’s tour of England in 2010. The then captain of Pakistan team, Salman Butt and fast
bowler Mohammad Asif were also banned and later jailed.

Amir came through the ranks of junior cricket in the country and the cricket analysts around the world felt that the young fast bowler had a great future. Ironically, Amir was named as the Player of the Series after the last series he participated in.

The young cricketer is expected to be released from jail later this month. However, the Chairman PCB denied that the board is going to offer any support to Amir if the fast bowler decides to appeal against his ban imposed by the International Cricket Counsel.

Ashraf said, "PCB cannot side with anyone who has done wrong and, because of them, the name of the country was stained."

However, in case ICC lifts ban on the young fast bowler, only then PCB will help Amir to recover mentally from what he has gone through since last one and a half year.

"Whenever Amir is cleared by the ICC and serves his punishment, we think he needs intense counselling and then we will take guidance from the ICC about him on whether there was any hitch on his playing", Chairman PCB added.

The Chairman PCB added that there is no doubt about the skills of Amir and he can still be useful for Pakistan cricket in future but the fitness level of the fast bowler remains a question as he has been out of cricket since last 16 months.

"Selectors can decide about him and, as far as his talent is concerned, there is no doubt he has that. But we will also have to judge his fitness", said Ashraf.
