Killer Elite – Is out now on DVD this week

Killer Elite is a 2011 action film which is on the 1991 novel, The Feather Men written by Sir Ranulp Fiennes. The $66 million budgeted movie was released on September 23^rd, 2011 and it features an ensemble cast of Jason Statham, Clive Owen, Yvonne
Strahovski, Dominic Purcell, Robert De Niro and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. The film was premiered at the 36^th Toronto International Film Festival in September 10^th, 2011.

The film is based on a true story and centres on an ex-member of Britain’s Elite Special Air Service, Danny (starred by Stathman) who is forced into action after his mentor, Hunter (played by De Niro), is taken captive. Danny and Hunter are plunged into
a highly dangerous game of cat and mouse and move from one place to another around the globe.

Filming of the 116 minutes movie began at Docklands Studios Melbourne in May 2010. Some London scenes were filmed in Cardiff in July. De Niro and Statham were scene filming outside The Promised Land Bar on Windsor Place.

The action flick received mostly negative reviews and poor ratings. Review aggregator Metacritic gave it a score of 44 out of 100 while IMDB gave it a rating of 6.6 out of 10 based on its 22,094 users.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it a score of 24 percent, based on reviews from 111 critics, with an average rating of 4.7 out of 10. The site’s general consensus states, “A rote, utterly disposable Jason Statham vehicle that just happens to have Clive Owen and Robert
De Niro in it.”

Peter Rainer of the Christian Science Monitor gave it a rating of C+ and stated, “De Niro, in what amounts to an extended cameo, is radically miscast. That’s still no excuse for his non-performance, which is beyond lacklustre.”

NPR’s top film critic, Ian Buckwalter, gave the movie a score of 3.5 out of 10 and declared, “Jason Statham is enjoyable enough to watch that he can occasionally make one forget just how silly and dull a movie like Killer Elite really is.”

Richard Roeper, a top movie critic, was kinder to the movie and said, “Jason Statham cements status as top-level action star.”

Killer Elite is out now in stores near you but you should rent the movie instead of buying it. It’s a good way to pass your time with your buddies.
