Ready to talk to Taliban: Altaf Hussain
Karachi: (Thursday, January 12, 2012) Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain today said that he is ready to talk to Taliban for the sake of Pakistan. During his telephonic address, the MQM chief requested Taliban leadership
and fighters to understand conspiracies of the enemies against the country.
This perhaps is a major development as MQM has always been a staunch critic of Taliban and has been running multiple campaigns to eradicate their stronghold from all parts of the country including Karachi.
Earlier, various media reports had revealed about the ‘secret talks’ between security agencies of Pakistan and the Taliban fighters who have lately splintered into a number of small groups. It was learnt that talks between agencies
and Taliban had entered into decisive phase, and there were hopes that these developments may help in laying foundation for a lasting peace in the country and the establishment of rule of law in the tribal areas.
Earlier, besides Altaf Hussain, Minister for Interior Rehman Malik had also admitted talks between government agencies and Taliban fighters.
If the news about negotiations between security agencies and Taliban leadership are true, recent comments by MQM leader may prove to be fruitful for building confidence between the two sides.
