The smartphone industry is hyperactive and new entrants need real prudence to cut their way into the market. However, Nokia has the financial backing to make their way into the segment that has seen metamorphic changes in the last four to five years, since the release of first iPhone from Apple.

The Finnish company launched the first Windows Phone-based smartphone back in October, 2011. Though the handset did not make big sales in the market as the company had anticipated, but it was the success as compared to previous Symbian- or Java-based devices.

The company launched a successor in the Lumia series at the Consumer Electronic Show 2012 called the Lumia 900. The smartphone is first LTE (4G) handset from both Nokia and Microsoft. Although the second Windows Phone-based 4G set, the HTC Titan II, was also released on the same day, but Microsoft’s main emphasis is on the Nokia device.

The US is the best market to test the LTE devices because it has the biggest pool of customers in the world and the various carriers are dealing this technology.

In many ways, the Lumia 900 can be a successful venture from both Nokia and MS. However, on many accounts, the phone can be just another smartphone in the market. First of all, the delayed entry into the mobile computing market has taken its toll on Nokia’s reputation. The US is the biggest smartphone market and on that account sports the fiercest competition in the world.

It is not a stroll in the park for companies to enter the US marketplace after such lengthy delay. However, on the flip side, the 4G market has all be dished out to Android-based handsets. This can be an opportunity for Nokia and Windows Phone to make a mark in WiMax market. So far, Apple has denied participating in the fourth generation networks.
