PTI: Be patient followers of Imran Khan

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 10:10:43 by

Imran Khan, the cricketer-turned politician and chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has been generating a lot of buzz lately and accordingly a lot is being written about him in the print media as well as online forums.

However, his followers (not all but many) will have to learn patience to bear criticism on him.

Although he is dominating the social media more than any other politician, he should analyze if he is any better now than in the past. It seems that the media’s romance with the captain is starting to subside in the present scenario.

The rise of Imran Khan, in line with our emotional character, has been accompanied with a strange type of schism where one end he is acclaimed as ‘man of change’ and on the other end he is being attributed as man of establishment or completely naïve.

Some of Imran’s internet followers refuse to listen to any type of criticism on the PTI’s chief. They get defensive, emotional and even abusive when someone points or even raises a query. Of course not everyone but many of his followers are likewise.

In some cases, they refuse to take no for a reply or accept any difference of view. All of this sometimes makes an entertaining showdown between two parities that also indicates a worrying fact of our cultural plague and impatience.

The fanatical reactions of PTI’s followers give amusing and at times even ridiculous deals, with due apologies some (not all) of his critics also do not lag behind. Some of his critics attribute him Taliban Khan or completely dishonest or a complete establishment’s puppet without providing credible evidences.

At the same time, calling all the supporters of the captain, of which many are highly knowledgeable and reasonable also, as totally suggestible reactionaries, is not a right way to express criticism. Political truths exist in grey colors rather than purely in black and white.

Thence, it should have been remembered by duo parties, the fierce critics and diehard supporters of Imran Khan not to exceed their limits.

In spite of making swipes at one another, we should publicize information based on facts and logical proofs letting others decide, as an informed person can make a well-versed selection.

We should develop a habit of healthy debate, considering all aspects of arguments and learn to question for the sake of better understanding and clarity. All in all, it should be nothing more than two people agreeing to disagree.

call me a PTI jiyala, but I stand firm with Imran Khan. I refuse to accept the waste of time critiques on IK by writers and journalists, when they utterly FAIL to point out the gross failures by sitting government, and those who have run the show in the past. I do not understand why grilling only PTI is justified, whilst the other non sensical family business parties have not delivered anything so far. Hence for me, a writer has to justify his own failure first for not being able to critique the sitting garbage first, before pointing a finger at someone who hasnt even been in government yet!
