Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao: Mayweather tells Pacquiao ‘No Way’ to 50/50 split

Five-division world champion and the current WBC Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather Jnr, has finally agreed to fight his welterweight rival, Manny Pacquiao, who is an eight-division world champion and currently the WBO Welterweight Champion on May 5, 2012. However, none of the fighter has signed on the dotted line as of yet and the reason behind it is money.

Mayweather-Pacquiao fight of the century is going to be a $100 million fight, if it happens, and the Filipino star wants a 50/50 split with the undefeated American legend. Mayweather on the other hand doesn’t want a 50/50 spilt, as he believes he is the biggest draw in boxing.

The 34-year-old American superstar recently sent an e-mail to the ESPN staff in which he insisted that Pacquiao can surpass his whole career earnings by fighting him even if he doesn’t do the 50/50 split.

Mayweather told the ESPN, “He [Pacquiao] asked about a 50/50 split, and I told him no that can’t happen. But what could happen is you can make more money fighting me than you made in your career.”

The Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, has almost generated $100 million thus far by boxing and he certainly cannot earn this much through a fight with Mayweather but if the two will ever meet, a rematch would be inevitable and this way Pacquiao can definatley earn a huge amount.

Team Pacquiao has always accused Mayweather of dictating his own terms but it looks fair if Mayweather does get a bit more in this fight because his record is way more impressive than Pacquiao. He holds a perfect record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout whereas Pacquiao has lost on three occasions.

Moreover, Pacquiao was not impressive at all in his last highly-anticipated trilogy fight with the Mexican Dinamita, Juan Manuel Marquez. He hardly managed a win. Mayweather on the contrary was as impressive as always in his last fight with the Vicious Victor Ortiz. Therefore, the American has the rights here to negotiate the terms.

Nevertheless, audiences will once again think as if Mayweather is trying to duck Pacquiao.

you need to research more Mr. Imran Shaukat Khan. it seems like your more into mayweather than pacquiao. you have no idea what this fight is all about. this fight is the biggest fight of the century your talking about. it’s an even fight, both are stronger. pacquiao tortured hatton, delahoya, and mosley while mayweather hardly beat them. Mayweather could be undefeated but his record is only 42 WINS. alot of fighters were undefeated on their 42nd fight. Just sayin.

Actually, people shouldn’t care this much about these half-bodied men, meaning welter weight, middle weight kind of stuff. Actually, there should be no weight classes at all. If they want to fight, they should eat, make speed for that weight and fight like full-bodied men with power. It would be fun and interesting to watch when elephants, lions, and rhinos clash, rather than cock fighting. If they have bad geneitics and dont have body to be heavyweight , just do something else dont fight. Come on, all my friends in India are talking about this, why would we watch these puny men fight like girls. We want to watch huge beasts clash, not hens and cocks.

@Aaron: Thanks for your feedback first of all and secondly it only my opinion. I am not a Mayweather fan and same goes for the Pac-Man but I feel Mayweather is technically much better. It’s been long I am writing for boxing and they call him the most difficult to hit in the ring. He has a bad image because he has not yet agreed to fight Pacquiao since he wants the fight to be fair (random blood testing). Anyways, that’s another debate. You said Ricky Hatton right? Hatton himself said a few days back that Mayweather was way better than Pacquiao you can google it. He was knocked out in the second because he and Pacquiao both likes to attack and one bad hit ends it all, which happened that night. But Mayweather has a diff style and he is pretty good in it. He is the best counter puncher.. Honestly see for yourself in the last fight how many time Pacquiao lost his balance. I am not saying he is a peace of cake for Money but currently Mayweather has an upper hand some how.. Maybe because what happened in Paquiao’s last figth.. He only like winning through decision because the other way demands an attacking fight. Nevertheless, like I said its an opninon and everyone has his own. Peace out 🙂

    D
Mayweather is a bum. And most of all he’s a criminal
May weather is the most disgriasful sportsman
Boxing has ever had. He’s just a chichien shit
    When it comes to paquiao!

it does’nt mean if you’re undefeated you are the best. rocky marciano and ,joe calzaghe is undefeated but muhammad ali and. sugar ray robinson had losses but the they rank higher than them.

If what you are saying is right, then the latest PPV of Mayweather (1.25M) should have been higher than Pacquiao’s PPV (1.4M). Also, Pacquiao is 1st ranking in US google search and 3rd in international search. Floyd didn’t even appear on the top 10. Also since 2007, Mayweather has only fought 7 times, as compared to Pacquiao’s 14 fights. Floyd’s win over Ortiz cannot only prove his superiority because he won via sucker-punch. Even if Pacquiao’s performance was not that good, he didn’t resort to unsportsmanly tactics. Mayweather’s records were impressive prior 2007, but after that, he has been slacking off.

@adrian: Totally agreed I am also Ali’s big fan but the point here was a bit diff…

@Alex… I said you before that Mayweather has a bad public image coz everyone wants him to lose a fight now … U c this is why most come to his fights… I was want to c it honestly but after examining things by myself I have become neutral now .. Pacquiao obviously fights more people that is why P4P ranking removed Floyd from the number number spot.. Floyd became dirty espacially when he started ducking Pacquiao well not ducking but whatever u call it .. anyways the best came to fight Floyd first than Paquiao.. His biggest win was over Hatton.. people said he cant take a punch, he proved it against Mosley.. against De La Hoya he was good .. I mean what I just don’t like is this that every1 say Pac-Man I mean he is no super human but over rated I guess .. he is damn good and I like his fights but his last performance just left me flabbergasted .. it was damn sluggish.. Mayweather outclassed Juan Manuel Marquez whereas Pacquiao lost all three or atleast the first and the last … why cant he cope with his pace ? they have fought three time he robbs him everytime to be fair… Floyd has may 1 or 2 controversial wins otherwise his record all the wins were way impressive .. his last fight was controversial coz he played but played smart maybe.. he punished Ortiz for doing smthing he shuldn’t have done and who started the head-butts ? he was impressive against Zab Judah as well and he showed sportsmanship there … he took many in their prime i guess.. It’s an even fight I know but physically Floyd is better than Pacquiao and I feel he ll get away and this will certainly not end only with one fight… It should be fun but let’s see who wins .. I am just praying it gets made now seriously m praying ..
