Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that the Interior Ministry would provide security to Mansoor Ejaz.

Talking to media men Saturday in F-9 Park, he said that ISI could not provide security to anyone as it is an intelligence agency and not a security agency.

“Under article 245 of the constitution if any need arises to call paramilitary forces then the government will decide to do so and army cannot be called in directly,” he said, adding the government was complying with every order of court and commission.

He said the defense secretary and interior secretary would be responsible for the security of Mansoor Ejaz, he added. “Providing security to any one is responsibility of commission,” he said. The Commission has issued order which has been given to attorney general of Pakistan, he maintained.

He said the Attorney general has to provide security to Mansoor Ejaz as per rules, adding constitutional provisions could not be overlooked for bringing army to action.  Responding to a question he said Akram Sheikh, counsel for Mansoor Ejaz, and has not informed the ministry about the arrival and movement of Mansoor Ejaz.

“There was no restriction on the movement of Mansoor Ejaz and he could go anywhere,” he said. He said that Parliamentary committee for national security has also summoned Mansoor Ejaz.

Several persons including Prime Minister had appeared before parliamentary committee for national security, and Mansoor Ejaz should also appear before this committee. He said that PPP leader Raja Riaz had also expressed his desire to become party in memogate issue and to appear before the parliamentary committee.

He was of the view that if the parliamentary committee issued orders to place Mansoor Ejaz or any other person on ECL then it would be binding on him to do so. Implementation of parliamentary committee’s orders will be ensured,” he said.

The minister said the government has not decided to restore NATO supply line and the supply would remain suspended unless a written guarantee was given to the government. The Joint session of parliament would be convened to review the future relationship with the NATO.

How can you trust Rehman Malik’s word who is himself a compulsive liar and could not protect his own leader Benazir Bhutto who had appointed him as her Chief of all the security arrangements.
