RIM announces Heins as their new CEO

Thorsten Heins was presented to Wall Street as the new CEO of Research in Motion, following Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis departure after two decades in charge.

The new CEO of RIM is originally from Munich. He joined RIM four years ago, from the industrial giant Siemens, where he initiated and built his career after completing his professional studies from University of Hannover.

He was in the Research and Development department, customer service, sales and management products at Siemens. Heins last position at the German firm was the chief technology officer.

Heins has now accepted the challenge to revive a company that many see as a falling star.

In his short appearance, half an hour, said that nothing is really wrong with the company. Innovation, he said, is something that should be in the heart of any technology company.

His words acted like a bucket of cold water for the investors, who have spent months pushing for a radical change in strategy to cope with the enormous challenges that the company was facing. Heins did not seem to admit that the
company has a real problem facing the competition with the "brand of fruit" as the executive calls the multinational company, Apple.

As it happened to Kodak, RIM are going through a bleak period. Heins admitted that the company is experiencing a difficult transition and trying to learn from the "bumps", as after the fall in global service or failure of the launch
schedule of new products.

He explained that the intention is to "build" on the current position of the Blackberry. He said that their products, at this time, should move towards the average consumer and they need to allocate more budget to the marketing
sector.

"We have a solid foundation in business and we are growing in the Asia-Pacific," he said.

The company’s board, however, believes that the current strategy the firm using is adequate, i.e., they see a fundamental problem in the performance of the company.

Blackberry RIM was first launched in 1999. During a decade they have dominated the interactive phone business, until he met with competition from Apple’s iPhone and Google Android devices.
