Apple’s iPad with a physical keyboard: A peripheral that cannot be neglected – Part 2

However, these new devices do not come without downsides of their own. They lack a mouse track pad as the whole screen is touch sensitive. Furthermore, they also do not support full string of keystroke commands albeit cut, copy and paste.

Only one company can be expected to release a fully compatible device like the Zagg docks and that is Apple itself.

There is no denying the fact that iPads are in occasional need of docks and physical keyboards, there can be little to none expected from Apple as the company has a pedigree of not falling back on their footsteps. As it is near to impossible that Apple will release an iPhone with a stylus, expectations related to docks and keyboards for iPads can also be shoved into the closet as it might not be happening in the near future. But the company cannot deny some facts that they might encounter in the near future.

One fact is eminent and that is, iOS is the future operating system of the company. The company is on the verge of discarding Mac Pro line due to its low sales in the last two years and many other devices might have the same fate in the cards. Macbook Pro is facing the same sales problems after the release of Macbook Air in 2008. An iPad with a dock might not be an official release by Apple but if the trend of an iPad-plus-external dock grows in the future, the company might be forced to plunge into the manufacturing of such commodities.

If this happens, iPad-dock combinations will certainly cannibalize the line of laptops by the company as the slim device boasts almost every application that can be run on Macbook Air and other desktops for that matter.

The dock is in the cards, whether Apple recognizes that need or not, third party manufacturers are enjoying the high sales of such products. It is better that Apple makes the right moves before its counterparts address the same market segment with their products.
