Bill Gates Pays respect to Arfa Karim

Washington D.C: (Wednesday, January 25, 2012) Chairman Microsoft and Co-Chairman Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, has paid his respects to late Arfa Karim – the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) in the
world from Pakistan.

Gates, the American philanthropist, who was moved by the news of Arfa suffering from an epileptic stroke that led to a cardiac arrest, had also offered to shift the wonder kid to the US for better medical treatment. But, before
the arrangements to shift her abroad could be finalized, the prodigy lost her 26-day-long battle for life and succumbed to death.

Embracing death at the age of 16, Arfa was mere nine when she attained her MCP certificate back in 2004.

Amazed by her talent, Gates had invited the young IT professional to her office in the US. When Arfa met the Microsoft chief, she was mere ten, and despite a tender age, Bill was amazed to learn about her interest in the complicated
world of science and information technology.

As an acknowledgment of her acumen in IT, Arfa was invited in the top universities of Pakistan to deliver lectures on the subject. The young girl who had a wish to establish an IT institute in Ram Dewali, her native village, was
passionate to further her education at the top universities of the world.

Besides representing Pakistan at numerous international seminars, Arfa also joined a flying club in Dubai and became the youngest pilot in the world. In 2006, she represented Pakistan in Technology Education Developers Conference
where she was part of Microsoft keynote session on “Get ahead of the game”.

Following the epileptic attack, when Arfa was moved to hospital, Bill Gates contacted her father and offered to bear her medical expenses and to shift the young child to Dubai or US for treatment.

Arfa’s father, Amjad Karim, a retired army colonel said that Gates was saddened to learn of her tragic death. Thanking the Microsoft Chief on his concern, Amjad said that his daughter was a spark that got attention and love from
everyone on the globe.
