Nisar demands Supreme Court to look into ISI’s role during Musharraf era

Islamabad: (Tuesday, January 24, 2012) Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said today that he hoped of the Supreme Court to also investigate into the role of Pakistan’s premier secret agency Inter
Services Intelligence (ISI) during former president Pervez Musharraf’s era.

Nisar’s remarks came at a time when Supreme Court has decided to take up the 16-year old plea filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s prominent leader Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan to probe into the ISI’s distribution of money among
politicians to persuade them to form a political alliance for ulterior motives.

The hearing on the issue is also important as one of the key witnesses into the issue, General (retd) Mehmood Ali Durrani has submitted an affidavit conceding to the allegations. There has been news that some of the prominent PML-N
league political figures have also been among the recipients of the money from the agency to act on the lines provided by it.

Reacting to the news, leader of the opposition, while addressing to a press conference of a group that claims to stand for ‘Pakistan First’ said the remnants of Pervez Musharraf instead of preaching democracy should seek nation’s
apology on their disputable role in the past.

He was of the view that after Musharraf, their leader’s name, this group’s name should also be changed to ‘Musharraf First.’

Nisar also said Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan should stop giving the impression as if he had the apex court in his pocket.
