PML-N will not support constitutional amends unless the government appoints new CEC: Nisar Ali Khan

Opposition leader Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan made it very clear that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) will not take part in any constitutional amendments unless the government fulfils their demands.

Nisar expressed in the National Assembly that PML-N will not support 20th Amendment unless the government provides them with a bill regarding the term of members of Election Commission. He also said that the government should take all opposition
parties in confidence on the selection of new Chief Election Commissioner.

While addressing the media personnel outside the Parliament, Nisar said, “The PML-N will convince all political forces in the opposition to talk to the government with regards to this particular issue.”

He asserted that PML-N is not trying to influence the elections but he demanded an accountability bill and the arrangement of an independent election commission. He said these are some of the crucial issues that the government needs to resolve.

“We want an election commissioner who is sincere, and this can only happen when the government is sincere.” He explained that only one and a half months are left in the tenure of chief election commissioner, therefore the government should start a consensus
for the appointment of a new election commissioner.

He blamed the government for its unviable policies and for impeding the free and fair elections in the country. He announced that PML-N will not give any additional authorization to the government because of its poor performance.

“To have free and fair elections in the country, it is important that we all stand united. Whoever tries to rig the elections will be an enemy of the country,” Nisar added.

He also criticised Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani for his recent statement regarding the Army Chief and DG ISI, saying that “The prime minister should think before he speaks and if speaks then at least he should stand by his words.”

When asked to comment on the recent meeting between the former President Pervez Musharraf and DG ISI Shuja Pasha, Nisar said, “Prime Minister Gilani should be asked about the meeting between DG ISI and dictator Musharraf as DG ISI administratively works
under him.”
