Musharraf to be arrested if he returns Pakistan: Yousaf Raza Gilani

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has categorically said that former president Pervez Musharraf will certainly be apprehended if he returns to Pakistan.

Speaking to CNN from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the premier shed light on a wide range of topics. He observed, “In fact there have been murder charges against him, and there have even been some very grave charges against him, and the Supreme Court has already given a verdict against him.”

The premier asserted, “Certainly when he’ll come back, he has to face those charges and certainly be arrested.”

Former president and military dictator, Pervez Musharraf announced plans to return from exile in late January and to run in upcoming general elections. However, he reversed his decision postponing his plans after the elected government warned that he would be arrested on his return.

He acknowledged that they were facing a lot of challenges in the war on terrorism including militancy in the country’s northwestern border. He reportedly said, “We are fighting for our own selves, for our own survival, because these militants, they have killed 30,000 innocent people, 5,000 brave soldiers.”

The Prime Minister went on to say that the fight against terrorism has caused a loss of economy but venture in the country remains out of progress.

However, he rejected the impression that there was not investment come to the country. They have offered very profitable incentives for investment in Pakistan and there was a lot of investment coming to Pakistan, he added.

Gilani maintained that the people in Pakistan were bitter over the attack by NATO forces last November that killed two dozen Pakistani troops in Slala check posts, Mohmend Agency.

“We have paid much price for the war on terror. People should appreciate our struggle, he remarked”

Besides holding a meeting with world richest person and founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, the prime minister also held a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum.

He told her that Pakistan was keen to move towards a free trade agreement with Thailand, and stressing focused talks for increased bilateral trade between the two states.

Gilani offered congratulations to Yingluck on becoming the first female prime minister of Thailand.

The trade between the two countries was increasing progressively and had touched one billion dollars, he said adding that there was a huge potential to increase it further.
