The Help – SAGS Awards 2012

Contrary to what might have been expected, The Help was winner of the Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Performance by a cast film.

The story of the experiences of black women as responsible for the cleanliness of houses of wealthy families in Mississippi in the sixties merely showed a female cast that offers very good performances that ultimately move the viewer, in addition to accurately
portraying racial discrimination and their problems at that time.

Led by Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Sissy Spacek, Jessica Chastain, Bryce Dallas Howard and Allison Janney, the film took precedence over The Artist,The Descendants, Midnight in Paris and Bridesmaids, 2011, as well as becoming an overwhelming
favourite" to succeed in the upcoming Academy Awards.

In the category of Best Actor, French actor Jean Dujardin received the SAG Award over George Clooney (The Descendants) Brad Pitt (Moneyball, 2011), Leonardo DiCaprio (J. Edgar, 2011) and Mexican, Demian Bichir (A Better Life , 2011). His performance in The
Artist, silent film, has brought huge applause from Cannes 2011 and their triumph is what comes closest to the podium of the golden man.

Christopher Plummer adds another award this year for her portrayal of a man dying of seniors who admits his homosexuality in Beginners (2010). Undisputed favorite for the Oscar, is prefaced with Kenneth Branagh (My Week with Marilyn, 2011), Armie Hammer
(J. Edgar), Jonah Hill ( Moneyball ) and Nick Nolte (Warrior, 2011).

On the other hand, Viola Davis was surprised at the event as she was crowned Best Actress for the role of Aibileen, a woman who by circumstances of life decides to talk about their experiences as domestic maids and ladies,

Overcoming Tilda Swinton (We have to talk about Kevin, 2011), Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs, 2011), and favorites like Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady, 2011) and Michelle Williams (My Week with Marilyn), Davis won her first SAG after her second nomination (which
she won in 2009 as supporting actress for Doubt).

Octavia Spencer won the Screen Actor Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress for The Help, Thus, reaffirming her status as a favorite for the Oscar.

Boardwalk Empire , HBO production, won for the second consecutive year, the SAG Award for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series, on top of other high quality programs such as Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Dexter and The Good Wife.

In the category of Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series, Modern Family, for the second consecutive triumphed in the Screen Actors Guild Awards, demonstrating why it is one of the best productions of the genre today. 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Glee and The
Office were left on the road this time.
