Educational mess on Queen Mary Road

Are educational activities all about creating heavy traffic mess on roads and halting important movements of gentle citizens for hours coupled with generating immense pollution? Yes this is so. Passing by Queen Mary Road, Lahore at morning and noon times,
you experience long traffic jams and clouds of smoke causing cough. Why? Just because there is delivered plenty of knowledge across the road and thousands of students from all parts of the city come to quench their quest.

Does it not seem ridiculous? For the sake of providing ‘quality education’, the two renowned colleges, Convent Jesus & Mary and Queen Mary College, cause sheer agony to the transporters who are forced to pass by that road daily.

At noon, you see long queues of vehicles parked on both edges of the road. These vehicles have to stay there for at least two hours to pick the students. This illegal and unethical parking makes the narrow road unmoveable. Then what happens? Wheel jams,
killing sounds of horns, aggressive driving, quarrels, pollution and much more absurdities. Is education all about this?

This road lies just a few yards away from the office of Lahore Development Authority (LDA), the most corrupt department which is supposed to remove all unlawful constructions and parking from the provincial metropolis, but it does not even bother what mayhem
is going on in its neighbourhood.

Interesting to note is the fact that Mian Nawaz Sharif, the chief of Pakistan Muslim League (N), is an ex-student of Convent Jesus & Mary but he too might not be even aware of the muddle, being perpetrated in the vicinity of Punjab Assembly with the label
of education. The Khadiam-e-Ala (the chief servant) is also oblivious of it. How shameful and deplorable this is!

It is not the why the two colleges are doing. The pollution generated by long traffic blockades not only harms the people on the road but it is also disastrous for the health of the students sitting inside the institutes. This is not the way at all.

If the colleges are so keen to educate the society and the government is so glad to see the children seeking knowledge, it should not be done on the expense of time and money of the citizens. There should be separate parking lots for the vehicles which come
to drop and pick the students. The road should be spared from the mess of education so that the citizens can move easily. For God sake.
