Nisar optimistic for headway on 20th amendment

Islamabad: (Wednesday, February 08, 2012) Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar said today that deadlock on the 20th constitutional amendment had melted today and the talks with the PPP leadership
turned out to be fruitful.

Nisar said that during the negotiations to develop a consensus over the matter, the recommendations forwarded by his party were considered by the PPP leadership. However, he said it will become clear only by tomorrow if the two
sides reach to a broader consensus over the issue pertaining to the passage of 20th amendment.

Brushing aside the news about a deadlock over the matter, PPP leader Khursheed Shah also claimed that progress was made during the discussion and they were hopeful to carve out a way forward.

Admitting that there were still major issues to be dwelled upon in detail, Shah said both the political sides had shared some recommendations, which may get approval after getting clearance from the leadership. He said, “However,
it is possible that leadership of our party or of the opposition may not agree on these recommendations.”
