The Darkest Hour is a 3D Science fiction thriller which is directed by Chris Gorak. It is the first alien Invasion movie which is shot and based in Russia. The movie stars Emile Hirsh, Olivia Thirlby, Joshua Seth and Max Minghella.

The story incorporates a group of five young people who are caught in middle of the alien invasion in Russia. They fight to survive past these aliens who are in an invisible electric form. The movie gives you a breakthrough from ugly huge monstrous marauding
alien forms. It presents you with deadliest form of alien i.e. invisible electrical form. These aliens won’t show mercy to anyone and they can’t be stopped. They attacked earth in three phases, Phase one – Seize the Planet; Phase two – Devour all Energy including
electricity, the main thing they want; and Phase three – Destroy All Life

The movie received poor ratings and mostly negative reviews. Review aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes report 12 percent of 50 critics gave it positive reviews, with an average rating of 3.1 out of 10.

Mark Olsen of the Los Angeles Times gave it a score of two out of five and stated, “What’s the point of going all the way to Moscow if the shots you come back with end up looking like cheap green-screen process work?”

Hollywood Reporter’s top film critic had a similar viewpoint. He was quoted, “An alien invasion flick that evidently expects dramatic shots of a depopulated Red Square to make up for a flatlining screenplay and the absence of even a single compelling character.”

Jeannette Catsoulis of the New York Times gave it a poor rating of one out of five and said, “Really, how slovenly is it to use invisible aliens? If you’re going to tease us with nothing but pinwheels of light for three-quarters of the film, you’d better
have one heck of a reveal up your sleeve.”

The 44 million budgeted “The Darkest Hour” is rated PG-13 for some language and sci-fi action violence. It should be on everyone’s radar as it presents you with a different kind of story.
