PTI’s Imran Khan asks Gilani to resign from his post

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Monday said that there was no moral justification left for Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani to hold his office any longer.

The PTI chief asked Gilani to tender his resignation after being convicted by the Supreme Court in contempt of court case instead of pressurizing the judiciary.

He observed, “What moral justification does Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani have after being indicted with contempt charges”?

He commented over the Monday’s apex court verdict saying, “The Supreme Court is operating cautiously in all its proceedings, so rather than pressurizing it, you (Gilani) should resign as there is no justification for you (Gilani) to continue as the prime minister of Pakistan”.

He uttered these words while addressing a news conference at the induction of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Karachi division chief organiser Syed Hafeezuddin into the PTI.

In his view, democracy is governed by morality but not on force, as force remains with the armed forces. He also flayed severe criticism on President Asif Ali Zardari. He raised a question, “Why was this contempt done”?

He further continued, “Was this done to benefit or to serve the people of Pakistan? No. This was done only to guard the plundered money in President Asif Ali Zardari’s Swiss accounts”.

The PTI chief was of the opinion that the premier would not be able to take action against anybody who is facing contempt of court charges. He was of the opinion that Gilani should set an example be quitted the premiership.

He asserted, “You set an example for the people to follow. If Gilani has been indicted with contempt charges, how can he in the future question somebody who is found in contempt to the court”?

Earlier, the Supreme Court charged Gilani with contempt for defying its ruling to reopen graft cases against his boss, Asif Ali Zardari, the president.

The premier pleaded not guilty. However, he could be imprisoned and will likely lose his job if he is convicted.
