Government contemplates on names for next ISI chief

Islamabad: The government is faced with the difficult question all over again. Given the deteriorated relations with America, it is finding it difficult to come up with a name to be put in to the saddle of the director general
of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) as Lt. General Shuja Pasha, the current head of Pakistan’s top secret agency is retiring on March 18 this year.

According to the news, currently there are four names under consideration which include Maj-Gen Mohammad Asif, Maj-Gen Naushad Kiyani, Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam and Lt-Gen Javed Iqbal.

After American Ambassador to Pakistan, Cameron Munter’s yesterday’s statement, another extension for Pasha is also on the cards.

Given his engagement in the war against terror and the cooperation between ISI and CIA during his tenure, PASHA has already been given two extensions in his service.

After consulting the military leadership, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will announce the final name DG ISI office.

It is worth mentioning that Cameron Munter has already shown his concerns with the replacement of PASHA in midst of war on terror and has intimated the Pakistan government that it may deteriorate the bilateral ties of the two countries
further.
