Recent expert reviews have revealed that the sheer size of the handset does not make it a good replacement of a tablet, not at least for those who are hardcore users of slates and make their living on the use of such devices.

However, the Note is good replacement for e-readers as it brings more functions to its side of the equation of than Kindles and Nooks, for example telephony capabilities. Moreover, the phone also is a good choice to watch movies and of course listen to music.

The addition of new hand gestures is another added advantage to the handset. Swipe the edge of hand to capture the screenshot. But it takes some time to get used to it and has little practicality to it. In addition, the phone call can be muted by flipping the phone upside down. Press the hand on the screen and the music player will pause. Rotate the finger on a picture and it will follow obediently.

Finally the S-Pen, the major selling point of the Note. Although the phone has incorporated numerous features related to the stylus but the size of the peripheral is a little finicky to play with. It is too thin that sometimes it gives the feel of grabbing air in the forefingers. On the other hand, the response on handwriting is impressive and the lag ratio of touch and its response on the screen is in micro seconds at the utmost.

On the downside, the writing to text recognition is a bit sloppy for joined writing but it gets better with time. However, the voice to text recognition works marvels even with a flat Indian accent like mine.

Samsung announced earlier that the Note will get its update to Ice Cream Sandwich but the timeline has not been unveiled as of yet. However, the Note is an eligible candidate for newest version of the Android operating system.
