The most attractive among all these updates is Messages. This application was first introduced on iOS 5 in iPhone 4S and has also been updated to the iPads. Since its release, the application has been going places because of its free features like unlimited messages, hence the name.

Now that the new OS X has adopted this feature as a standalone application, the chances of it becoming more successful will skyrocket upon the full release of the operating system. With the help of this flamboyant new app, the users will be able to interact with their friends and family who use other Mac and/or iOS devices free of charge.

In addition, they will also be able to send and receive snaps, videos and tunes to each other. The free and instant nature of the application and its UI resembling the SMS feature, makes it a monopolistic entity in the tech world. However, third-party IM applications, the likes of Yahoo, will also have their say in the competition as they are not formidable on the Mac platform.

Notifications Center is though not a standalone app in the Mountain Lion but it is integrated to every application that is preinstalled on can be in the future. It is accessible from the right top corner of the screen on the bar. Moreover, Apple has included another two-finger gesture to the trackpad to access the latest notifications. The notifications bar pops up on the right side of the home screen by swiping two fingers simultaneously from right side of the trackpad to centre.

The bar boasts notifications from every app, from latest OS updates to new developments on the likes of Twitter and Facebook. It also supports Reminders app that has been inherited from iOS. All the notifications are grouped in a systematic way and the user can promptly act on them.
