Saif Ali Khan: I acted in self-defence

The Bollywood actor, Saif Ali Khan, has filed a counter complaint with the Colaba police station against the South African businessman Iqbal Sharma, who claimed that Saif assaulted him and fractured his nose last Tuesday at Taj Palace in Mumbai.

The 41-year-old Saif told the police that Mr. Sharma’s father-in-law initiated the fight and gave him a punch first and whatever he did was an act of self-defence.

Saif’s case has been booked under section 325 and it is being investigated at this point in time. However, the actor is confident that the CCTV footage will prove him innocent.

“I acted in self-defence. I was hit…I’ve got hit on the eye,” he said in a press conference on Wednesday evening.

Saif said, “I don’t think any gentleman would have behaved differently. The CCTV footage in the restaurant will prove everything.”

“We are studying the restaurant’s CCTV footage. The security cameras at the staircase of the restaurant where the incident occurred did not capture the fight,” a senior police official said.

Here is what happened. Last Tuesday night, Saif went to Taj Palace with the Bollywood top actress and his girl friend Kareena Kapoor in order to have dinner. The couple also had some friends along with as a result to which there was a lot of noise coming from their table. Nevertheless, the argument started when Sharma, who was also having dinner with his family at the same place, complained the management that they are getting disturbed from the noise coming from Saif’s table.

Sharma was asked about all the incident and he said he tried three times but Saif didn’t listen to him at all.

“They were making a lot of noise. And we asked the management to ask them to be quiet so that we could also enjoy our evening. This failed on about three occasions at least.”

This is not the first time Saif has been arrested by the police because he was also arrested back in 2008 for assaulting a photojournalist in Patiala during the shooting of a film.

Last time the case was removed, as Saif apologized but let’s see what happens this time.
