Per Mertesacker is expected to return in few months – Football news

Arsenal’s defender, Per Mertesacker, is eying for an early return at the Emirates Stadium. The German bear an ankle injury at the Stadium of lights and after examining his condition, it was announced that he will miss out the remaining season.

Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger, was quoted after the incident, “"He had reconstruction of his ankle in Germany before he joined us and the scan did not look too positive yesterday. Last night he went back to Germany to speak to the specialist and see where
we go from there," Wenger told reporters on Tuesday.”

Regardless of registering a dramatic victory against Sunderland with a late goal from Thierry Henry, the Gunners suffered a major blow. Their best defender, Mertesacker, endured a gruesome ankle injury.

Arsenal’s star defender is currently recovering from the operation in Bavaria. Germany’s football team doctors are currently examining the defender and they have given the news that Mertesacker will be fit to play for his country at the Euro 2012, an international
football tournament which begins in early June.

“My participation in Euro 2012 is not in danger,” said Mertesacker. “Dr Stockle in Tübingen did the operation on Tuesday evening, attached a piece of bone back to the ankle and patched up the deltoid ligament on the inside of the ankle. All went well and
I am in Donaustauf, Bavaria, for the physical rehabilitation.”

Arsenal recently suffered a crushing 0-4 defeat against the Italian champions, AC Milan. With Kieren Gibbs unable to stay fit and Bacary Sagna just returned, the Gunners are clearly missing the German colossus. He was criticised for his lack of pace but
after registering loss against the Italians at the UEFA Champions League and the Black Cats at the FA Cup.

Currently the partnership between Vermaelen and Koscielny will take the Invincibles through the end of the season. Next up for the Gunners are their arch rivals, Tottenham Hotspurs, and Arsenal needs to re-ignite their spark to stay at the top four.
