Ferrari takes the lead, leaves mafia in the rear-view mirror – Part 1

There is a saying that two forces hold Italy together, first is the Italian mafia and the second is Ferrari. Both have many things in common, for example, both are rich, expensive, and illusive.

However, there is always the debate, which one of them is more powerful. Ferrari has its brand power and mafia has its … let’s say man power. Since the recent developments in sales strategies of the Italian super car maker, there is no doubt that Ferrari might be more elusive than the mafia, most of which ironically owns their own Ferraris.

In 2002 came a new car out of Ferrari’s Maranello-based production outfit, Enzo Ferrari. Though the automobile was named after late co-founder Enzo Ferrari, it was the pencil work of a Japanese designer, one Mr. Ken Okuyama. And what a design it was. Although it gave the look of Ferrari, it was inspired by the Formula 1 design, which frankly speaking ruined both its Ferrari and F1 looks.

However, the design is not the only surprise factor. The car, which was worth US $659,330, was not available for sale to the masses. The company chose who to sell it to. Only 400 were produced and sold to movie stars, racing drivers, rock stars and the lot.

So, let’s summarize this. Ferrari produced a car that was a commemoration to their founder, 14 years after his death; it failed to inherit beauty genes from its predecessors, was produced on a very limited scale and was sold to preselected customers, who might not even like it in the first place and probably did not have the permission to get rid of it afterwards.

Then Ferrari pulled off another stunt. Shortly following Enzo’s GREAT success, they produced another vehicle with a sales strategy that might not strike the mafia in the next 100 years.

In 2005, emerged on the horizon Ferrari FXX; the car that was designed on the design of Ferrari Enzo and was sold to those who already had … Enzo. Now, don’t take it lame, Ferrari still had a rabbit in the hat.
