Why Anonymous is gaining fame in the cyber world? – Part 1

Anonymous has been attracting attention of late. Especially after attacking Federal Trade Commission’s website twice within a month’s time and websites of other government agencies like Federal Bureau of Investigation and Nasdaq.

The social networking websites have helped the hacking group gain the fame in the last couple of years, although it has been in the hacking business for the last one decade in one form or the other.

Most recently, their attacks have become more frequent than off and on. The main reason attached to these hack-attacks by the experts is working of the US government on acts like Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) and Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). The more the government indulges into these kind of acts to protect corporate sectors’ intellectual right, the more frequent these attacks become.

Last week, the hacking group announced on one of FTC’s websites that they are back and with double the force.

Guess what? We’re back for round two,” the hackers wrote in reference to their attack on the FTC websites, their second such raid on the agency in less than a month. “With the doomsday clock ticking down on Internet freedom, Antisec has leapt into action. Again. Holy deja vu hack Batman! Expect us yet?”

Anonymous has been in the field of hacking for the last ten years and it did not start as an organized group, though it is not as organized as depicted in the movies, but it started as a individual efforts for more or less the same purpose. The ‘same purpose’ gathered them together to turn the world especially the US into a Die Hard 4.0 situation. With the clock ticking toward acceptance of one of ACTA-like acts, the attacks are likely to become more regular.
