The tale of return: Darkness to elation

In what appeared to be a quite unique example, a seventy-year old eunuch, Jamaila is a tutor of Holy Quran, teaching more than 450 children every day.

She born in 1941 but hadn’t fit in at home or at school due to her physical differences. On finding an opportunity to run away, she left home with an elderly eunuch, Pasham Fakir, to go for a life in what she later called sin until 1970.

One moment that changed her entire life was when her brother died in a robbery, proving a turning point in her life. Describing her school days, she said she had left the school due to teasing attitude of fellow girls.

Jamila continued she started helping her stepmother with domestic chores after dropping out of school.

She observed, “When I was 10 years old, a eunuch named Pasham Fakir came to our house and asked my mother to hand me over to him but my mother refused”.

While interviewing to a newspaper, she further put light on her life journey from darkness to elation. After continued insistence of the eunuch guru, she quitted her house to go with them and join their community, Jamila added.

She further informed that she had started getting training of professional eunuchs in the house of Pasham, located in Garhi Yaseen near Shikarpur.

In another move, Jamila changed her guru when she visited to Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s shrine for the annual Urs celebrations, where eunuchs come together from every part of the country.

Fakir Ameer Zadi, the new guru of Jamila had paid Rs5, 000 to Pasham for Jamila and took her to Sukhur. The major turning point came to her life back in 1970 when she read a newspaper report about the death of his brother, Syed Muhammad Rasool.

In order to seek peace, Jamila started learning Quran from a female neighbor and with Allah’s grace; things just fell into place for her. She started teaching children of surroundings and now the count has been increased up to 450.

Interestingly, she teaches the students Holy Quran without charging a single penny to anyone. In her view, she was quite lucky enough to perform Hajj four times and Umrah once.

She was of the opinion that Allah created her the way she is, but nowadays being a eunuch has become a profession.
