Ali Zafar regards Oscar win as a ‘milestone’

The Pakistani singer admitted that the win was a great achievement for his country and is hopeful that it would do some good for the industry.

Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy won the Academy Award for the ‘Best Documentary- Short Subject’ for ‘Saving Face’, a short film made on the acid attacks on women in Pakistan. The documentary won worldwide acclaim for its
handling of the subject and was eventually rewarded with the Oscar last week.

Ali Zafar, who is currently in India as his third Bollywood venture London Paris New York awaits release, claimed that it is a huge honour for Pakistan that the film has been awarded. He claimed that it is a big moment for the
country and its cinema and is hopeful that the win will help in changing the Pakistani cinema.

“It was very important to all of us, a big moment to all of us, and has made us very proud. We are very happy. We all want a new Pakistan to emerge, and that can only happen with the new generation, the young people who are stepping
into filmmaking,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

The actor also hailed the youngsters coming in nowadays and admitted that these people have exceptional talent but they sure need exposure. He is confident that the future is bright for the industry in Pakistan and is hopeful that
many more films like these are made.

“There are very promising youngsters who all want to change the perception of Pakistan internationally and make it into a beautiful country,” he concluded.

Ali Zafar will be seen with Aditi Rao in London Paris New York. The film has released in India on Friday, March 2, and has been garnering some positive reviews.
