South Africa emerged as comfortable winners in third and final ODI of the series to take the series 3-0 after winning the T20’s 2-1. New Zealand needed to win to save the white wash at home but once again their batting let them down.

Kiwis made three changes to their squad. Colin de Grandhomme, Michael Bates and Nathan McCullum were included in place of Tim Southee, Jesse Ryder and Tarun Nethula. The visitors allowed Morne Morkel a rest and gave Wayne Parnell a chance to resurrect his
place in the Proteas line-up. Merchant de Lange came in place of veteran all-rounder, Jacque Kallis while justin Ontong was also rested, replaced by Johan Botha.

South Africa won the toss and asked New Zealand to bat first. Guptill was the first man to get dismissed for 7 before Rob Nicol followed him for 12. Brendon McCullum departed for 47, followed by Kane Williamson (22), James Franklin (36) and Grandhomme (36).
The tail once again failed to deliver as the home side were dismissed for 206 inside 47 overs.

De Lange picked up four wickets on his ODI debut while Robin Peterson snapped up two wickets. Lonowabo Tsotsobe and Botha picked up one wicket each.

The Proteas surprised everyone by asking Parnell to open the innings with Hashim Amla. Amla was once again the stand-out player in the bating department as he went on to score 76 runs from 89 balls. Parnell, though, failed to live up to his captain’s expectations
and managed 27 runs from 41 balls. Albie Morkel was promoted up the order and smacked 41 from 51 balls which included two fours and three maximums.

In-form, Faf du Plessis, scored 19 runs before being trapped in front by Nicol. Amla was caught behind of Mills by McCullum but not before launching his second half-century in three innings. JP Duminy made 25 from 37 balls. Captain, AB de Villiers and former
skipper, Botha, saw their team over the line by staying not out at 9 and 5 respectively.

Nicol picked up two wickets whereas Mills, Bates and Andrew Ellis picked up a wicket each. De Lange was given the Man of the Match award for his inspirational bowling performance on his ODI debut while De Villiers was given the Player of the Series award.
