Chairman Senate to be nominated with allies’ consent: PPP

Islamabad: (Wednesday, March 07, 2012) Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting said today that Pakistan Peoples’ Party will nominate its candidates for Chairman and Deputy Chairman offices only after
consulting the coalition partners.

Awan, who was addressing a press conference, said, “Consultation with coalition partners in this regard is in progress while leadership of PPP has given mandate to its co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari for the decision.”

She was of the view that first phase of Senate elections was over while the process for appointing new Chairman and deputy chairman will soon be completed.

Hinting towards the possible candidate to assume the chairmanship of the upper house, the Minister for information said that it could be from Balochistan.
