First Innovation Award for the Empowerment of women and girls; Hillary Clinton to announce the winners

Washington: (Wednesday, March 07, 2012) Kicking off with the first Innovation Award for the empowerment of women and girls, Secretary of US State Department, Hillary Clinton, is to announce names of the winners on Friday, March
09.

According to the press release issued by the State Department, “The Secretary’s Innovation Award for the Empowerment of Women and Girls seeks to identify and support innovative ideas that hold the promise of transforming the lives
of women and girls around the world. The Award is funded by The Rockefeller Foundation through the Secretary’s International Fund for Women and Girls, and awardees are chosen by a panel of experts who are themselves innovators. This year’s awardees from India,
Kenya and Tanzania represent scalable innovations in the sectors of agriculture, technology, economic empowerment and the “green” economy.”

The jurists this year will comprise of Mohammed Yunus (Grameen Bank), Cherie Blair (Cherie Blair Foundation), Sheryl Sandberg (Facebook), Beth Brook (Ernst and Young) and Noeleen Heyzer (United Nations).
