Supreme Court of Pakistan orders the PM to write to the Swiss probe

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has passed an order on the Prime Minister of the country, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to write to the Swiss probe in order to ask them to re start an investigation in which the President of the country Asif Ali Zardari had been
named for being involved in money laundering, along with his wife. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has also added the directive that the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani should carry out the order without seeking advice from any one.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani has been charged with contempt of court for not following its orders. The Supreme Court of Pakistan had given repeated orders to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to write to the Swiss probe so the investigation
against Asif Ali Zardari could be re started. However, Yousuf Raza Gilani had failed to do so, giving the argument that the President of the country Asif Ali Zardari enjoyed legal immunity both within and outside the country.

The investigation against Asif Ali Zardari had come to a halt during the time that the President of Pakistan was Gen. (retd) Pervez Musharraf because of the signing of the National Reconciliation Ordinance by Bhutto. However, the apex court of the country
had deemed the NRO as illegal that in effect called for the re starting of the investigation against President Asif Ali Zardari.

The counsel of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Aitzaz Ahsan, commented in the following manner at the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan: “I have no objection on any decision taken under the law and the constitution, but the debate will go on.”

Nargis Sethi was called in to act as a character witness for the Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani. She commented that the Prime Minister of Pakistan was "very soft spoken, smiling, one who believes in reconciliation and has great respect for
the judiciary".

Whether the Prime Minister of Pakistan will comply with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in order to nullify the affect of the NRO remains to be seen.
