Pakistan trade deficit widens by 41 percent; first eight fiscal months observe $ 14.6 billion loss

Karachi: (Tuesday, March 13, 2012) Pakistan’s trade deficit is widened by 41 per cent, and the loss incurred in last eight months of the ongoing fiscal year has reached to $ 14.6 billion.

During same period, the last year’s trade deficit was reported to be as high as $ 10.34 billion, as per the statistics released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Against the ever mounting imports of US $ 29.79 billion, the country’s exports during July-Feb remained confined to $ 15.19 billion.

Comparing with January, although trade deficit has decreased during February and has come down to $ 1.43 billion from $ 1.7 billion, but still, the overall picture is still alarming and the policy makers needed to think over it
seriously and immediately.
