Hussain Haqqani asks Supreme Court not to appoint forensic expert

The former Pakistani ambassador to the United States has requested the Supreme Court of Pakistan recently not to appoint a forensic expert to investigate the memo gate scandal and let Mansoor Ijaz bear the cost of the expert as he was the one who brought
forward the allegations and therefore should also provide the means to support his statements.

The following comments were made by Hussain Haqqani after Ijaz had submitted his written testimony to the Supreme Court of Pakistan for review, “Since the forensic examination is being carried out at the request of Mr. Ijaz, its cost should be borne by him
and precious/scarce resources of the state of Pakistan should not be wasted for any such purpose.”

Mansoor Ijaz is a Pakistani businessman based in America who claimed last year that he was given a memo by Hussain Hqqani and was asked to deliver it to the United states. The memo, which appeared to originate from someone in the higher government office
of Pakistan, asked for help from United States in controlling the military of the country. It appeared as if the government of Pakistan ruled by the Pakistan Peoples Party was in fear of a coup by the military of the country after the death of Osama bin Laden
and was asking for US help in order to avoid such a situation.

On the other hand, the following comments were made by the spokesman for the legal team of Pakistan’s former Ambassador Husain Haqqani: “Mansoor has presented to the Judicial Commission whatever he believes to be facts, but to us most of that consists of
fabrication, imagination and Mansoor’s attention grabbing antics. A great example of that are his so called transcripts of Pakistan’s Air Traffic Control and the communication between two high offices of Pakistan on May 2 last year.”

Ijaz had been asked by the apex court of the country to come to Pakistan and give a testimony regarding the allegations that he had made but Ijaz had resisted saying that he was worried that his life might be at risk in Pakistan. Therefore, Ijaz had recorded
his testimony in London through a video link.
