Gradual decline of sports in Pakistan

In Pakistan, a country that had a rich culture of sports in the recent past, is losing its status in this field at international level, which is quite alarming and will have a greater impact on the future of games in every corner of the country.

In 1994, Pakistan was World Champion not only in one game but in four games including Cricket, Hockey, Snooker and Squash. The whole world recognised Pakistan as one of the most leading countries in sports.

However, unfortunately, we lost our status in all four games due to many reasons. Currently, we are struggling to find our lost prestige but it has become quite challenging to get back on the elevated track.

Many reasons are there behind the downfall of sports in Pakistan but the most important of all is that the lack of support from the government. The rulers remain busy in corruption and they do not pay attention to sports at all which is the major factor
that has destroyed the prestigious position of Pakistan in the world of sports.

Pakistan was one of the best countries in the world that ruled Hockey, the national game, and won the World Cup for four times. Hockey is most one of the most popular and widely played sport in Pakistan but lost its importance because of the negligence of
government.

Cricket is the most popular sport in the country but over the years we have slipped down from the spot of World Number One. Pakistan won the World Cup in 1992 under the captaincy of Imran Khan but failed to maintain their supremacy in the arena afterwards.

However, now Australia, South Africa, England, India and Sri Lanka are quicker in making progress as compared to Pakistan.

In Squash, Pakistan has ruled the world for three decades. Hashim Khan, Jahangir Khan and Jan Sher Khan did not let any player in the world to dominate the arena of squash.

After their retirement, we went down and still are down as no player from Pakistan comes in the top-10 bracket in the world rankings.

Similar case is with Snooker as we lost our glory right after 1994 when Muhammad Yousaf became the World Champion. Now no Pakistani player is even in the top 100 players in the world.

Government should take rapid steps to raise the level of sports in every corner of Pakistan which will enhance the interest of people in games and they will contribute to bring our lost glory back.
