The TV mogul has admitted that he could axe the X Factor at the end of the next season to start a new show in its place. He claimed that there has been an idea in mind for the past few months and he may go for it.

Cowell claimed that it has been 10 years since X Factor started and probably the time has come that a new show replaces it. He was talking in the wake of deteriorated ratings last season of the UK show.

The last season in UK had three new judges namely Tulisa Contostavlos, Gary Barlow and Kelly Rowland. The show saw a dip in ratings in the Live shows if compared to the previous season when Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Danii Minogue were the judges.

“In a year’s time we might say, ‘Right, that’s the end of The X Factor. Let’s start something new’. I’d rather fall off the cliff on numbers than deteriorate slowly. We have something in development which could replace The X Factor. Most things in music, fashion or TV tend to be across a ten-year period,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

The producer added that X Factor has been a huge success in the last ten years and is hopeful that the new show replicates the success. He refused to reveal anything about the new show and insisted that the news will be made official in the next few weeks.

“The great test of success is if you can transcend a decade. I believe we can do it again if we’re prepared to be brave. It is the UK’s most popular entertainment show and we’re looking forward to another great series,” he concluded.

‘Little Mix’ won the previous season of the UK X Factor.
