Virat Kohli ideal replacement for Rahul Dravid, says Sourav Ganguly

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has said that Virat Kohli is an ideal option to fill in number three slot left vacant after Rahul Dravid’s retirement.

Kohli is in sublime form at the moment. He hit his third century in his last four innings on Sunday, collecting a lot of praise. The longest version of the sport witnessed his class in Australia, where he played a fantastic century in a pressure Test match.

Impressed with his class, Ganguly shared that Virat is an ideal man to replace Dravid at number three position.

"He is the next big thing in Indian cricket. I’ve never seen a better one-day innings in my 22-years career. I hope he fills up the place of the champion Rahul Dravid at No 3," Ganguly said.

Commenting on Sachin Tendulkar’s 100th ton, Ganguly congratulated Little Master for accomplishing the feat. He was talking to Harsha Bhogle during the DVD launch of the documentary directed by Mitali Ghosal.

Recalling his fantastic career, Ganguly shared, "There were likes of VVS Laxman, (Virender) Sehwag… It was a mixture of attitude, wanting to change Indian cricket coupled with keenness to improve fitness.

When asked about John Wright’s stint as coach, Ganguly said, "We would take a lap of a stadium once. But on his first day he said, ‘I am your coach. You have to run 10 laps of the stadium. You may abuse me. It’s the attitude to train, I think that changed
Indian cricket. A crop of players came in. I loved working with him. It was a great relationship. We thought alike."

On his retirement, he explained, "I still had two years of cricket. But I was not enjoying. I was given ‘Asian cricketer’, ‘Batsman of the year’. I just felt that something was not right. I didn’t want to play cricket like that."

The Kolkata-born left-hander represented India in 113 Test, scoring 7212 runs. His ODI stats are even more impressive, as he piled up over-11000 runs including 22 tons. Ganguly is shouldering his responsibilities in the commentary box these days.
