In the current political scenario, both the message PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has given and the time he has chosen to deliver it, are quite significant.

In quite a brave move, he strongly criticized the intervention of the intelligence agencies in political spectrum.

Various courts including the Supreme Court are currently scrutinizing role of security agencies, particularly on part of the missing persons’ case. Vociferous electronic and print media flayed severe criticism to intelligence agencies, making them accountable before the masses.

Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the second largest party in the country, claimed that the secret services tried their best to woo the PML-N to make in part of their conspiracies against the democratic setup.

As a major leader of opposition, his words get further highlighted the issue. With induction of new ISI chief, the time of his press conference is also quite significant, as many people in the country are looking for a change in the attitude of these agencies.

Nawaz Sharif, the two-time former prime minister, has promised to make no compromise on the reality, brushing aside reaction of the security establishment.

His stance is quite commendable brave, however, one will have to keep ones fingers crossed for the time being as the promises made by politicians are like marriage vows, that are effortlessly disremembered.

In the secret operation, intelligence agencies exploit weaknesses inherent in political parties. These shortcomings are yet to be conquered despite signing the Charted of Democracy (CoD).

Nawaz Sharif, who emerged one of the most sober leaders in the present state of affairs, avoids repeating the same mistakes. But same is not the case with other party leaders, particularly Shahbaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

In his latest remarks, Shahbaz Sharif commented about dragging President Asif Ali Zardari in the streets of Lahore, Karachi and Larkana.

The remarks given lately by the Lahore High Court (LHC) about the Punjab government’s treatment of the courts’ orders is also vital to understand the situation.

Tug of war is not need of the hour, as it will give undemocratic forces chances to derail the system. Everyone will have to play his/her role within the parameters of democratic limits.
