Lack of leadership in Pakistan

A youngster was not reluctant to admit lack of leadership in Pakistan, when he was asked about country’s biggest problem. He argued that only an honest leader can fish Pakistan out of troubled waters.

I saw this scene on TV a few days ago. Such a hopeless comment by a young man, who is considered to be the future of Pakistan, is certainly an eye opener for all of us.

If we glace at Pakistan politics, we find only a few big names: Mian Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari, Imran Khan, Altaf Hussain, Asfand Yar Wali, Maula Fazlur Rehman and some other parties.

Barring Imran, all of abovementioned politicians are a part of government in a way or another. Without a doubt, opposition is the most crucial element in a democratic system.

As far as national government concerned, Pakistan Muslim League (N) is the biggest opposition party. Hence, Mian Nawaz Sharif and his men carry a huge responsibility on their shoulders.

Ironically, Supreme Court is playing opposition’s role at the moment. Respectable Chief Justice and his fellow Judges are trying their best to hamper government from corruption and other stuff like this.

However, it is entirely opposition’s duty to force government to move in the right direction. Public is protesting on the roads against load shedding, price hikes and poor law & order situation.

Every time I come out on the road, I saw big bill boards, saying ‘Qadam Barhao Nawaz Sharif Hum Tumhare Sath Hain’.

It means that Mian Nawaz Sharif just needs to step up and the whole nation will follow him. However, our tragedy is that the biggest opposition leader is not ready to take initiative.

Rather than launching a campaign against government over Memo Case, Mian Nawaz prefers to take it to Supreme Court. It is his responsibility to protest against government public-unfriendly acts.

So, Mian Nawaz Sharif should perform his duties himself and not leave everything on Supreme Court. The opposition parties including Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf should realise their responsibility.

If they fail to do anything for public, the voters will definitely be reluctant to come out of their homes in next general elections.
