Joe Bartoch and Julia Wilkinson win gold medal – Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials

Joe Bartoch and Julia Wilkinson won gold medals of their exclusive events at the Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials in Montreal.

Bartoch devastated hopes of his challengers by finishing first in the Men’s 100m butterfly event with the timing of 53.01 seconds. He was followed by Kourosh Ahani, who stayed almost one body length away from Bartoch and reached the victory stand for gold
medal by clocking an effort of 54.08 seconds. The third spot of the discipline was obtained by Stefan Hirniak of IS, who posted 54.30 seconds.

In the meantime, Julia Wilkinson won gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle as she posted a time of 54.73 seconds. She was followed by Victoria Poon, who reached the victory stand for silver medal by producing an effort of 54.86 seconds. Heather MacLean
emerged on the victory stand for third position as she tapped the wall with the timing of 55.06 seconds.

Third event of the session was Men’s 200m backstroke, where Tobias Oriwol of TSC occupied gold medal of the event by submitting a time of 1 minute and 58.79 seconds. His immaculate effort placed her marginally ahead of Charles Francis, who finished second
in the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 58.90 seconds.

Matt Hawes of ROCS transpired on the finishing end as third position holder as he ended his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 00.29 seconds.

Next was the Women’s 200m breaststroke, where Tera Van Beilen proved her mettle for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 24.03 seconds. Van Beilen was followed by Martha McCabe, who ended her swim in second best place by clocking 2 minutes and 24.81
seconds. Ashley McGregor was the third best swimmer of the event as she occupied bronze medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 26.56 seconds.

The top two finishers of every event will qualify for the Canadian team to the 2012 London Olympic Games while the winners received medals after the completion of session.
