Director Sujoy Ghosh doesn’t want to let his audiences down

Bollywood film director, Sujoy Ghosh, is on a cloud nine these days thanks to the stupendous success of his film ‘Kahaani’, which was recently released on March 9 and the 46-year-old doesn’t want to lose his audiences now.

Ghosh made his debut by directing ‘Jhankaar Beats’ back in 2003, which did well. However, his other two films ‘Home Delivery: Aapko… Ghar Tak’ (2005) and ‘Aladin’ (2009) sank at the box office without any trace. Therefore, he is extremely happy with the success of ‘Kahanni’, which many out there thought would be another flop since it was a female oriented movie.

He said, “I’ve got success after two flops — Home Delivery (2005) and Aladin (2009). Now I want to retain my audience and not let them down. I will take some time to decide what to do next.”

‘Kahaani’, which featured Vidya Balan in the lead role, was made on a budget of Rs. 15 crore and the film raked in Rs 14 crore on the first weekend of its release and the producer Jayantilal Gada, Pen Movie, while confirming the news insisted that it is a pretty good amount for a low budget movie.

Gada said, “The total income from three weeks has been Rs 53 crore in India, Rs 4 crore overseas and another Rs 10 crore from music, home video and satellite rights. The total money it has made so far is Rs 67 crore. For such a low-budget film, it’s a pretty good figure.”

Ghosh took a long time to complete his film and the main reason behind the delay was financial problems, as producers were not interested in investing their money on any of Ghosh’s film. Nevertheless, the director now believes he would not face any problem while making his next film.

Ghosh remarked, “Now, producers have started to have more faith in me. Hopefully, getting finances for my next film won’t be a problem.”

Well, all said and done, ‘Kahaani’ is still running in the cinemas and it has certainly brought Ghosh back under the main lights.
