Pakistan, India to share evidence on against Hafiz Saeed, Gilani

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yusuf Raza Gilani revealed on Sunday that Islamabad and Delhi will share intelligence and evidence against the founder of banned militant Islamist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (Let), Hafiz Saeed, on Monday April 16.

Speaking to the media reporters at his Lahore residence on Sunday, Gilani said that the interior secretaries of both te countries will share their evidences against the Let founder in high-level talks next Monday.

“We are in the middle of talks with India and on April 16 both countries’ interior secretaries will share their evidences against Saeed,” said the Pakistan Prime Minister while speaking to the media in Lahore yesterday.

“And on the basis of these evidences, which would be sufficient for the courts, further action against Saeed will be taken,” he added further.

The Pakistan PM said that the policy of exchanging the evidences at the interior secretaries’ level was adopted unanimously, adding that all the political parties, including PML-N, were taken on board before taking a decision.

The United States had last week announced a $10 million bounty on the LeT chief. Asked to comment on America’s open offer, the PM said that instead of using their options, the US government should have contacted directly their Pakistan counterparts with
evidences.

Saeed is required to India as Delhi suspects the LeT chief plotted and executed the deadly Mumbai attacks in November 2008. Gilani said that it is an issue between India and Pakistan which does not concern United States.
