Acura comes to the hybrid car market a little late but its upcoming RLX makes the presence known. Inspired by NSX’s hybrid technology, the new Acura comes with the excellence of Honda’s engineers. The drive system is comprised of a direct-injection V-6 complemented by an electric motor at the front wheels, and dual electric motors on the rear wheels, producing 370 horsepower but turning in an estimated 30 mpg.

2013 BMW X1

When orange is in the details and an innovative design is shown, it means BMW is at work. The German automakers showcased the new mini SUV, don’t confuse it with crossover, with a hybrid technology that was first installed in the 3-series. The success of the small sedan heavily depended on the hybrid technology from BMW and the same is expected to mirror in the X1.

It can be had with a four-cylinder engine, delivering excellent fuel economy and decent power, or a six-cylinder for some real speed. The cabin tech may all be from current BMW stock, but that puts it near the top of current production cars.

2013 Hyundai Santa Fe times two

Hyundai showcased not one but two versions of its concept crossover-cum-SUV, the five-passenger Sport and the standard longer wheelbase seven-passenger version. Both boast direct-injection engines to maximize power and fuel economy. The Sport even has an adjustable power steering system, where the driver can choose different levels of boost. At the top end, the Santa Fe will get an 8-inch LCD showing navigation, plus connected features through Hyundai’s BlueLink telematics system.
