Amazon announces price cut

The defeat of one party almost means the triumph of another, although if the other party is not directly involved in battle. This is what has happened to the U.S. government to demand Apple and several
publishers to reconsider e-book pricing.

But as Apple’s agreement and publishing’s were a triumph over Amazon, but
now the triumph of the U.S. government is also true for Amazon, which has announced a drop in prices in the catalog for their books, the largest in the world.

Apple’s agreement was created to attract publishers who, until the appearance of iPad, should submit to the demands of Amazon, which has set a general price, reportedly $ 9.99, to download a book.

The hook, in fact, had worked well when Apple established in 2003 when they offered their iTunes music store at a price of 0.99 cents a song. Amazon had done exactly the same with the book offerings which Apple
had previously did by offering the music.

The arrival of the iPhone in 2010 also came with its own bookstore, the iBookstore. Their catalog was minuscule compared to the Amazon, but Steve Jobs played the card of attracting publishers in exchange for
offering free pricing.

The immediate reaction was that some publishers withdrew their titles from Amazon and that the department store began to lose market share from 90% to 60% now.

The initiative of the U.S. government may have continued in Australia, where authorities have announced that they could sue Apple and several publishers for pricing. However,
these legal skirmishes have not affect the Spanish market, where the government had introduced fixed price law, in a bid to give the users freedom of choice to choose between a paper books and eBooks.

This interesting law, meanwhile, is causing most of the Spanish reader, even if an electronic reader, are not encouraged to buy (the difference between the price of a paper book and the bit is just a few Euros).
