Following a detailed discussion over the allocation of portfolios to newly-inducted ministers, Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani cited Qamar Zaman Kaira as the Minister for Information and Broadcasting by replacing Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan.

Despite her severe efforts, she lost her-favorite portfolio, and has been given the charge of the Ministry of National Regulation and Services.

The latest development explains the desire of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) to accommodate most of its mainstream leaders in the cabinet in the election year. All the stages was prepared they not only perform accommodate their constituencies to win the upcoming voting-war.

Qamar Zaman Kaira has held the same portfolio but was replaced with Firdous Ashiq Awan few months back.

It seems that the Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has been succeeded in convincing President Asif Ali Zardari to pick up his dream-team of ministers, as indicated by the latest move of the party.

Some reports claimed that the Farzana Raja was choice of the presidency for the same purpose, she had administered an oath. However, the idea was dropped after PM Gilani convinced the president that Qamar Zaman Kaira should be the key player in his mainstream media team.

The reinstatement of Kaira and his junior fellow Samsam Bukhari also bespeaks that the government’s media team had failed to deliver and this couple would now rebuild its image ahead of the general elections.

Another report claimed that President Zardari wanted to appoint Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as Minster for Water and Power to send a strong message to the Supreme Court. The premier, however, again prevailed and gave Ashraf another lucrative portfolio of Ministry of Information Technology (IT).

The infamous name of Raja Pervaiz Ashraf was associated in the Rental Power Projects (RPP), which is under trial to the apex court. His new task also raised eyebrows as the Supreme Court has already directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to take action against him.

Additionally, the IT Ministry is all set to announce auctioning of 3G licences, which are likely to bring billions of rupees.
