PM Gilani vows to stand by Zardari through thick and thin

Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday vowed to support the President of Pakistan and co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party, Asif Ali Zardari through “thick and thin”, and declared that he he would not leave the latter in sway at any cost.

While addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the Health Insurance Programme under the aegis of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), the Premier said that he was committed to the philosophy of PPP and will support party’s top brass at any cost.

“I was committed to the philosophy of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and never left them [then], and even now when I was asked to leave President Zardari, my response is that he became the party co-chairperson with the will of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and we will be with him through thick and thin,” maintained Prime Minister Gilani.

Mentioning the 1973 constitution as the hallmark Pakistan People’s Party, Gilani said that it was the Constitution which had kept the federation together, adding that without it the country would have disintegrated.

Referring to the country’s history, Gilani said that the founder of People’s Party Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had been judicially murdered for the masses. Touching upon ZAB’s contribution to the country, the Prime Minister said that besides the Constitution of 1973, MR. Bhutto would always be remembered for Pakistan’s nuclear programme which immeasurably strengthened the country’s defences. Similarly, he held that ZAB’s daughter and former Prime Minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, following the footsteps of his father, introduced missile technology to Pakistan.
