Mercedes rivals are not so keen on adding Double DRS system to their cars.

Nico Rosberg secured his maiden victory at China and impressed everyone with his pace generated through the Double DRS. The advantage comes in the qualifiers and in all three races so far Mercedes have been in contention for pole positions.

During the race the “Double DRS” advantage is not so profound but get the pole position is half the job done, and that is what Mercedes will be banking on throughout the season. Lotus and Red Bull have been against this innovation with Lotus even protesting against it. The FIA however has deemed it legal.

Now Lotus technical director James Allison said that now that the FIA has deemed it legal then there is no point in protesting against it, and the team will now look into it to make sure if developing the technology for their car is going to be beneficial for them or not.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner also said that his team is also looking into the Double DRS system and are right now at the stage of analysing whether the team can use it or not.

“Ultimately there has been a lot said and a lot of fuss made about it,” he explained. “They’ve optimised and capitalized on it and inevitably now we will pursue our own solutions.”

“But I think first of all, like any component, it has to earn a place on the car as a package. It’s not a given on everybody’s car that it’s a bolt-on lap time,” he added.

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh showed little trust in the technology as he suggested that it might inspire more controversy as the season progresses.

“I think there will be a continued controversy over the DRS, but we have a range of development priorities and we will continue to bring performance to the race,” he said.

He said that the team is going to make sure that investing unnecessary amount of recourses for the latest thing is not done without making sure of its equivalent benefits. He also added that Mercedes had a good pace without the DRS so it may not as important in their success.
